Cardiff & Co
After my spending some time with absolutely amazing people and having great days in beautiful cities, I just grabbed a book and got to the sea...
The wind surfing conditions were definitely ideal...😉
Last weekend, I spent one day in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, with the lovely Spanish Ari. The highlight was definitely our visit of Cardiff Castle with 2000 years of history in the middle of the city. We had a beautiful time there, unfortunately, we had to get back home in the afternoon. But I will definitely come back one time! 😊
I also got to spend some time with the locals I met at the hospital. They took me to Bradford-on-Avon, where we just walked to a lovely place with a beautiful view across the city. After that, not surprising, we had tea ...😉
Oxford's calling...
Sun is shining, music is on, train is on time, let's get the trip to Oxford started!
On the weekend, I spent a wonderful day with the absolutely sweet two other awardees Sandra and Bartolomeo and lovely Bea in the city of universities. Although we actually met for the first time in person, it was like knowing them for years!!! First, we stopped for a short visit of Blackwell's Book Shop, where definitely everyone could find something. Then, we visited the Bodleian Library and the Divinity School, one of the oldest buildings for university use. The huge amount of details on the ceiling are very sepcial and precious. Although exams and lectures don't take place there these days, ceremonies for students still do (must be an incredible feeling walking down the aisle there).
After having lunch, pale ale and cider in a lovely pub, we simply had to visit what Oxford is probably most famous for... Universities.
So, first on our list was Christ Church. Beautiful, simply beautiful... If only the Great Hall (you probably have already seen it in a Harry Potter movie 😉) wasn't closed and all tickets for a tour hadn't been sold out. However, we just had to pick another one of the 39 different colleges in Oxford. We were lucky and got a ticket for Magdalen College, which was also absolutely beautiful and radiated so much calmness. Being a student there must be gorgeous (except for the studying part 🥴)
As time went by so fast, we just strolled around afterwards, had coffee and suddenly, we already had to get on our trains back again. All together, a really well spent day! 😉
And one thing is safe, we will definitely meet up again! ❤️

Visiting Bath
Today I visited Bath - and I really have to say, it's beautiful.
The Georgian city is a great example for combining architecture and landscape.
Named after the Roman-built baths and surrounded by hillys and set in green valleys.
Bath Abbey
I mainly just walked around, visited impressive monuments (Bath Abbey, Roman Baths, Circus and Royal Crescent), enjoyed sitting in the Royal Victoria Park and strolled around shopping streets.
Enjoying Bristol
The last few days were quite tough as I was hopping from one Airbnb to another. However, not everyone has already lived in so many different places of the city-probably not even a Bristolian. Everyone was so incredibly nice and helpful, gave me advice about places or cafés to go to (Picture of the Bristol Cathedral) or just had coffee with me. However, I have almost settled down for the rest of my stay ;)
The arrival
Yesterday, I finally arrived in Bristol. I am always a little nervous when I am travelling by plane, but everything was working out great and I got to Bristol at noon and just strolled around the city for the rest of the day. Bristol is a lovely city, with lots of pubs, cafés and little restaurants, but I haven't seen that much SO FAR ;)
As soon as I get the exact dates of my stay, I will book a flight immediately, but of course, the search for an accomodation has already started. Unfortunately, that turned out to be not that easy as I thought it would be.
I will give you an update as soo as I will have found a place to stay.
First of all, I am absolutely grateful for the amazing opportunity of spending some time abroad and gaining new experience in the department of Neonatology. I am really looking forward to learning new facts and getting to know new or maybe totally different options of diagnostics and treatments that are common practice in Bristol. I would also love to get involved in clinical research subjects. However, in the course of my stay, I will definitely set new goals after fitting into my new surroudings. Of course, I will keep you updated.
